CommunicationsThe Communications Office builds public understanding and support for the mission of Lexington County School District One, its staff, students and schools.

The Communications team ensures that all staff understands the strategic efforts of the district; communicates the district’s position on issues affecting students, staff, families and schools; advocates for students and public education; and encourages community, school and parent engagement.

The Communications Office is also responsible for delivering accurate information in a timely manner; maintaining internal and external communications for the district; managing requests for information, including Freedom of Information Act requests; writing and publishing news releases, annual reports, internal and external newsletters, handbooks and other information; and answering the public’s questions.

The Communications Office coordinates several special events such as the district’s Teacher of the Year celebration, retiree banquet, school board recognitions, dedications, etc.

As a liaison between the district, the community, the legislature and the media, staff assists in coordinating media coverage and assisting these groups in their search for information about all things Lexington District One.


Lexington County School District One’s Communications Office works with the media to respond to their requests for information and/or interviews.

In order to protect instructional time at schools and to ensure that the media relations process works smoothly for everyone, reporters should not contact schools directly but should contact the Communications Office by calling for assistance. A list of employee telephone numbers and job titles can be found below.

Communications staff works with school principals and school-level public relations correspondents to determine if a school can accommodate a reporter s request and to ensure that the district has the parent’s permission. The district does not let students talk directly to a reporter without a parent’s prior consent.

Should media wish to interview an employee, staff can contact the employee and make arrangements for the interview. 


The Communications Office provides several online resources that may answer media questions. The district’s About page is particularly helpful.

Staff also shares Lexington District One news through news releases and upcoming event information. We encourage media to cover certain school events and activities and provide media advisories for your convenience. You can find all of these on the district’s website here.

  • Be respectful. We will not tolerate personal attacks or comments that are deemed offensive to any member of our community.

  • Be factual. We do not allow blatantly inaccurate or false information.

  • Do not post personal issues. If you have a personal issue with a staff member, school or the district, you should communicate with that person directly. The district’s pages were not intended to circumvent regular communication channels for sharing personal issues and concerns. We will remove comments regarding personal issues with the district, a school, student or staff member.

  • We will remove inappropriate remarks or remarks containing profanity.

  • You may not use the district’s Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube pages to boost your product sales or run for political office.

  • If you abuse these guidelines, we will remove your post and consider permanently blocking/removing you.
