Carolina Springs Middle School Principal Dr. Brice Cockfield recently received recognition for his devoted work to promote equity in education. The American Consortium for Equity in Education named him a “Champion of Equity.”
The honor recognizes educators who are innovative leaders pursuing equity for all students. Cockfield was spotlighted in the organization’s Equity & Access PreK–12 publication.
“Creating equitable opportunities for students, regardless of circumstance, is the real work of public education — it is the American dream,” said Dr. Cockfield. “It is difficult, messy and sometimes confusing work that requires patience, perseverance and resilience. There is no easy way. If there were, we would have solved it by now.”
The publication highlighted Cockfield’s efforts to deepen the CSMS staff’s understanding of equity. He and his leadership team created badges and T-shirts to encourage staff to complete a self-paced professional development course regarding equity. The badges and T-shirts bore the district’s “All Means All” theme.
